Atlas Venture was founded by Martin Sundberg, a former NCAA Division 1 hockey player and Swedish national medalist who experienced the international recruitment process firsthand. While competing at the highest collegiate level in the USA, Martin earned a Bachelor's degree in Finance and two Master’s degrees—a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master’s in Economics.

Growing up in Sweden, Martin played for Skellefteå AIK and Linköping HC, winning multiple national medals before moving to the United States. Playing in the NAHL and USHL, he secured a scholarship to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he experienced the unique opportunity of balancing academics and athletics in the U.S.
